Happy Pride Week, everyone!
For those of you who do not know, the month of June is nationally designated as Pride month in memory of a police raid on the Stonewall Inn in NYC in late June 1969. This raid set off a series of protests and riots advocating for LGBT rights, and is considered the impetus for the current LGBT rights movement. (There's lots of pretty good info about the history of Gay Pride on Wikipedia.)
If you have RSVP'd to definitely or tentatively join us to march in Saturday's Pride parade, expect to get an email from us later today with more info. If you have not yet RSVP'd but would like to come, please respond to this message ASAP so we can keep you in the loop about meeting time/place.
Even if you are not joining the MSPP group that marches in the parade, there are many Pride events to attend this week; lots of info about Boston Pride is linked from the email forwarded below, or you can check out www.bostonpride.org. All are welcome to all events – you don't have to identify as LGB T to have fun at Pride events or to recognize Pride as an important part of engendering equality in our society.
Even just wearing a rainbow ribbon for the week can be meaningful, so starting tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon, there will be rainbow ribbons available for the community on the 1st floor near the library/kitchen area.
