FOr Entering Students
Message from the President
I know that this is a time of excitement and some apprehension for you. It is for anyone who is about to embark on a significant journey.
Some of the best use of your time, as you prepare to join us, is to think hard about your goals and needs for the next few years. Any trip is helped by an itinerary and a map. Although we have some generous guides here at MSPP, your hopes and your insights will orient you the best.
Give some serious thought to the kind of person that you would like to be as a student at MSPP. Try to identify some of the barriers that have hindered your growth in the past and what assets you have to help you to become the best mental health professional that you can be. There are many choices to make and changes to undertake along the way to a master or doctor’s degree and the best place to start will be with those under your control and influence. Set yourself up well.
As is the case for most mental health professionals, my graduate training in Denver changed my life forever. The people that I met and the field experiences that I had in Colorado were as important as the books that I read and the classes that I attended. This will certainly be your experience in Boston. We have some unusually fine people among our student body, staff, faculty and field supervisors who will add to the growth that you will experience in our classes and in the field.
We are waiting to assist you and to welcome you to your new profession.
Nicholas A. Covino, PsyD
