Calendar of MSPP Education and career planning:
FIRST YEAR
August
Fundamentals week-an introduction to the school, course and field expectations, and beginning development of the professional self. (e.g. alumni, salary and career trajectories).
Autumn
Group meeting with the Field Placement directors to start the Field Placement search for Year 2, to be followed by individual meetings with your faculty advisor.
Spring
Which placement types need to precede others, what one should think of if considering an APA internship, the 3 pre specializations-health psych, child and family, and forensic, or hospital (e.g. you need to have had adult or child psychopathology as a precursor to Rorschach before the end of the second year).
Credential Building.
SECOND YEAR
Autumn
Possible career tracks, faculty and alums who represent various domains of practice.
Spring
Field placement discussion–information regarding the MSPP consortium, APA internships, licensing requirements. Relevance of student membership in professional organizations.
Networking – joining professional organizations, mentoring.
THIRD YEAR
October
Pizza with potential Doctoral Project members-pre-faculty meeting.
Spring
How to decide whether or not to apply for an APA internship.
What is a post doc fellowship?
