Advising Third Year Students
This year marks the time many students begin to feel more confident about themselves as developing psychologists. An advisor may be an invaluable resource in helping a student consolidate a sense of professional and personal competence while deepening the potential for further growth at this advanced level of training.
- Monitor your advisee’s progress in getting started on the Doctoral Project. As a requirement of the course (DP 1), students must have a chairperson and a topic by the end of the First Semester. Advice and consultation regarding research topics and committee membership are often helpful and needed by the advisee.
- If an advisee was not found ready for internship in the previous year, it will be necessary to monitor the probationary or remedial terms that had been established by the IRC or Academic Council; they will be reviewed again in the spring of year 3 and advisory input will be required.
