The 11th Annual Lucero 5K Run/Walk 2012

A gem of a day, a new location and over $6,000 raised

On Sunday, September 23, 2012, 82 runners from three different states set off from Newton City Hall, alongside the route of the Boston Marathon, to honor the memory of Dr. Cynthia Lucero and raise funds for MSPP’s Lucero Latino Mental Health Program (LMHP). In all, between registrations, community support and a successful raffle, over $6,000 was raised--funds that will help cover the costs of LMHP student immersion program travel to Ecuador and Costa Rica.

As always, the Run provided an opportunity for those who knew Cynthia, her family, fellow runners and coaches, to gather with current LMHP students and program directors to share their experiences. Some 23 MSPP students and staff volunteered their time to the event, and in the weeks prior, ensuring a very smooth run, and many more contributed to the raffle.

Winners of the Run were: Male overall: Chris Soucy, with a time of 17:22; Female Overall: Lori Muhr, with a time of 21:12.

Big raffle winners were: MSPP’s Jeffrey Napolitano (overnight stay for two at the Park Plaza Hotel), and Jane Hobbs (Gift Certificate for the Top of the Hub).

A big thanks to all who donated, volunteered and ran! (and thank you to the City of Newton for accommodating us!)
