MSPP Student Ambassador
Forensic & Counseling Psychology Program
My name is Kellie Finn. I was born and raised in a small town on Cape Cod. I graduated with honors from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth with a Bachelors degree in Psychology. After graduating college, I took some time to travel through Europe and then made the best decision thus far in my life, which was coming to MSPP. I am currently a masters student in the Forensic & Counseling Psychology program.
The choice to attend MSPP was a combination of the specific forensic program offered along with the feeling I had on my interview. A familiar phrase that we have all heard is "When you know, you know" and this really came to life for me on my interview day. Before I started graduate school, I had previous experience in the field of psychology mostly working with substance abuse and adolescence, which is what guided me to the area of forensics. MSPP has exceeded my expectations in terms of getting field experience and client contact within the forensic setting. One of the most remarkable aspects of the curriculum at MSPP is the field experience that you receive.
MSPP works with you to assure that you have clinical experience at a desired facility in order to meet your professional goals. My practicum as a first year was with the Department of Youth Services (DYS) and this was a great foundation for me. This year my internship position is at the Federal Bureau of Prisons, FMC Devens. I will be participating in one on one therapy as well as group therapy with inmates who suffer from chronic and persistent mental health problems.
I would recommend this forensic program along with all of the counseling programs at MSPP to any student that has passion and drive to achieve success in the world of academia. Although the coursework is challenging, the amazing faculty makes the learning experience fun and exciting. The warm hearted and welcoming environment at MSPP makes for an exciting journey and a magnificent opportunity.
