Advanced Standing Application (CAGS only)
Applicants with a Master’s degree may qualify for advanced standing, that is, as a candidate for the CAGS degree only. To be eligible, applicants must:
- Hold a Master’s degree in school psychology, or an earned Master’s degree or doctoral degree in a closely related field (e.g., clinical psychology, counseling, special education);
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or better in the qualifying graduate program
- Have completed at least 18 graduate semester credits of coursework that corresponds closely to required courses in the MSPP School Psychology Program.
Qualifying coursework is credited toward requirements for program completion. At least 12 of the 18 credits must have been earned as part of the qualifying graduate degree program. The determination of coursework equivalence is made by the School Psychology Program director or designated faculty committee. Up to 9 credits earned as a non-matriculated student at MSPP or another regionally accredited institution may also be credited toward the CAGS degree under the transfer of credit policy. The determination of coursework equivalence is made by the School Psychology Program director or designated faculty committee.
Prior to acceptance into the CAGS program, applicants must obtain a passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills test of the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL), which is required for licensure as a school psychologist in Massachusetts.
Concurrent Application to the MSPP PsyD Program or MA in Counseling Psychology Program
Other graduate programs at MSPP involve distinctly different graduate experiences and career opportunities. It is possible, however, that your interests fall within the realm of more than one program. Application may be submitted to more than one program, in which case each application will be evaluated separately. If applying to more than one program, each application should be submitted by its respective deadline. The application review process for each program is separate, including the interview.
Selection of Candidates
Completed application packets are thoroughly reviewed by members of the MSPP faculty. Qualified applicants will be invited for an interview. Applicants who are not in our general geographic area may opt to schedule a telephone interview. Each component of the application is an important part of the process. Although cutoff scores are not strictly applied, an undergraduate and/or graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher is expected. Applicants are welcome to submit GRE scores in order to present another indication of their strengths and abilities although the GRE is not required. Applicants who are non-native speakers of English may be required to take the Test of English as A Second Language (TOEFL) to provide evidence of their level of English as it is spoken and written in North America. TOEFL combined scores (listening, structure and written expression, speaking and reading) will ideally be over 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer based) or 92 (internet based).
