MS 518—Special Topics in Forensics: Assessment of Trauma & Child Adolescent Maltreatment

This course is not limited to Forensic concentration Students

This course will focus on assessment methods for use with children and adolescents who are known or suspected victims of maltreatment or have had exposure to other forms of trauma, such as family and community violence. Research on the impact of the different sources of trauma (e.g. physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological maltreatment, exposure to violence) on the developing child and adolescent will be reviewed. Assessment methods for use in forensic settings, such as forensic interviewing, self report measures of trauma or psychological functioning, objective measures, assessment of parenting capacity, and risk assessment will be covered. Ethical and legal issues in the assessment of this population will be integrated into the coursework.
