Clinical Psychopharmacology (MS) Program

In 1998, the U.S. territory of Guam passed the first legislation that awarded prescriptive authority to properly trained psychologists. In the late 1980’s, the United States Department of Defense launched a training program for psychologists in the military to gain prescriptive authority. Properly trained psychologists in this D.O.D. program are currently authorized to prescribe psychopharmacological agents in their practices. In 2002, psychologists gained prescriptive authority in New Mexico and this was followed by prescriptive authority being awarded to properly trained psychologists in Louisiana. There is currently some level of legislative activity in more than twenty states.
