Global Mental Health Program

Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology & Global Mental Health Program (MA)

This new 2012 program is a two years plus, 69-credit program in which students complete two summers and two academic years. The program was developed and is delivered in partnership with the Harvard Center for Refugee Trauma. It focuses on what is universal in helping individuals, families and communities in distress. How does a mental health professional work with an immigrant from a war torn country who has experienced the horrors of civil war or the brutality of ethnic oppression or terrorism? In addition, the program trains students to be competent and prepared to offer effective and attuned mental health services in international settings. Students will be trained in mental health assessment, treatment planning and intervention, but will then be invited to consider large systems and international issues of public health, economic disparity, heath care access and other pressing issues that impact successful intervention. Graduates will qualify to pursue licensure as Licensed Mental Health Professionals.
