SB 515—Substance Abuse Evaluation and Treatment

This course will introduce students to the epidemiology, etiology and models of counseling intervention in substance abuse Particular attention will be paid to the stages of change model developed by Prochaska, DeClemente and Norcross; and to the Motivational Interviewing model developed by Miller and Rollnick. Special topics including adolescent substance abuse intensive treatment and harm reduction will be covered.
