COUPLES AND FAMILY

(3 credits)

This course will focus on the major dynamics of couple and family relationships as well as the theory and practice effective in counseling them. Family therapy theories from a variety of modern and post modern perspectives will provide the basis for understanding and counseling couples and families. Relevant issues will be integrated into classroom discussions and role-plays. The importance of diversity and difference will be addressed throughout the course, such as gender and power issues, social class, and other socio-cultural factors. Open only to students in the master’s program in Counseling Psychology.

Prerequisite: COU CX510.
