Counseling Psychology (MA) Program

Concentration in Substance Abuse & Trauma

Students who complete the Substance Abuse & Trauma concentration will:

  1. Learn the fundamentals of trauma theory and acquire knowledge regarding the spectrum of Traumatic Stress Disorders, particularly the relationship between the experience of interpersonal violence and the development of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
  2. Learn about the relationship between substance abuse, dissociation, and the experience of trauma.
  3. Acquire knowledge about the co-morbid presentation of substance abuse and trauma syndromes; and learn about integrated and collaborative treatment modalities, including evidenced-based interventions.
