Counseling Psychology (MA) Program
Curriculum
All M.A. Counseling Psychology students are required to take the following courses:

Counseling Psychology students also must complete the following field training sequence and linked seminars:

In addition, students are required to take a minimum of nine hours of electives, which may be distributed in one of two ways:
Elective Option I: Core Curriculum plus one elective in Community Mental Health and the remaining electives drawn from different special treatment issues or populations.
Elective Option II: Core Curriculum plus a minimum of 9 hours of electives.
Students will be asked to choose an elective option in the spring of their first year of study in the program. The first elective is usually taken in the summer.
Finally, all students must participate in a Capstone Project Seminar that culminates in the production of an independent scholarly project. The Capstone Project will demonstrate the student’s ability to think about and evaluate critically important issues in the field of professional mental health counseling and the skills and roles of a professional mental health counselor. The finished project will be planned and conducted under the supervision of the Seminar Instructor and will involve both a substantial written paper and an oral presentation in the Seminar.
