FX 515—Introduction to Family Therapy
Through lectures, class discussions, videotapes, and experiential exercises, this class will outline a course of study about the history of family therapy, the major theoretical models of family therapy, and families in relation to the social context. The class will also explore and become more aware of the clinician’s reflective use of self in the therapy practice. A consideration of one’s own family of origin is an important part of understanding family therapy. Students will have the opportunity to explore their own families as a means for gaining a better understanding and appreciation of their therapy work.
