| Description: |
Given the recent emphasis on demonstrating positive outcomes in academic skills, school psychologists, teachers and other educators must be informed, and informative, about instructional support. This workshop will review current models for understanding the reading process as a gateway to knowing (1) the critical skills to assess in the areas of word identification and language comprehension, and (2) how analysis of students’ reading deficiencies relates to intervention. The focus will be on reading remediation needs of students in the upper elementary and middle school range (i.e. Gr. 3-8). Considerable emphasis will be placed on the written/spoken language connection, with oral language serving as the foundation of written language. RTI (Response to Intervention) will serve as the framework for curriculum and assessment suggestions for the Core, Supplementary and Intervention layers of instruction. |
