Summer in the City

Come to beautiful Boston in July 2008 for a week of engaging learning and summer fun at MSPP. Pursue a week of morning classes in a subject area that will enrich your understanding and strengthen your professional skills. Enjoy all that Boston and environs has to offer. The afternoon and evenings are free and open for you and your family to enjoy Boston’s many historical, cultural and natural sites.

There will be additional expenses for books or packets in some courses as well as food, lodging and entertainment.

Accommodations: Dedham Hilton Hotel. The hotel is convenient to Routes 128/95 and the Route 128 Amtrak station. The hotel has restaurants, a health club and swimming pool and is convenient by car to MSPP.

*There will be some additional coursework. The two credit course begins with the week of July 21-25 and follows the CE schedule above, then has additional class hours on that Friday, 7/25, 1-4 pm and lastly on Saturday, 9/27, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. There are additional assignments as well. Bob Lichtenstein, Ph.D. will serve as co-instructor for the academic credit portion of the course. The course is open to those with school psychology licensure, psychology licensure or the equivalent.

Description:

With the many recent advances in the areas of neuropsychology, learning disabilities, and educational interventions, keeping up with innovations and best practices in psychoeducational assessment is a challenge. This fast-paced course for practicing school psychologists, diagnosticians, and other educational specialists will cover the following topics:

  • Cognitive assessment and response to intervention
  • Neuropsychological perspective
  • Process interpretation of WISC-4
  • Executive functions and memory
  • Attention and ADHD determination
  • Assessment of reading and early literacy skills
  • Written language
  • Curriculum based measurement and response to intervention
  • Case study illustrations, with implications for intervention
  • Practice issues
