| Description: |
For those who feel down and out, hope is as valuable as it is elusive. In this workshop we will take a pragmatic approach to expanding our tool kit to help clients feel more hopeful and less despairing. Hopeful people are more peaceful people, in relation to others and to themselves. How we think about hope is key to whether we can help people activate it in their lives. We will work with a definition of “reasonable hope” and experiment with interview approaches for co-creating more robust hope. Importantly, we will identify ways to buffer ourselves from the effects of our clients’ despair. Working in small and large-group formats, we will address the kinds of challenges clinicians face daily. We will learn to recognize and work with our inadvertent contributions to hopelessness and our greatest strengths in challenging it. Participants may experience shifts in both their professional and personal lives. |
