Integrating Relational Theory with Other Psychodynamic Treatment Models

Date: Program Cancelled
Time: 8:45 am - 4:30 pm
Program No: MS24
CE Credits: 6 (CE/CME Credits)
Tuition: See table above
Instructor: Steven Cooper, Ph.D.
George Fishman, M.D.
Location: MSPP
Description: Relational theory itself is a combination of influences from interpersonal theory, British independents, and aspects of conflict theory in ego psychology and classical theory. It might be possible for a psychotherapist new to reading about relational psychoanalysis to believe that each moment of psychotherapy is dominated by moments of countertransference expressiveness. In this seminar we will explore how the relational turn (ie, a continuous interest in enactment, reciprocal influence, and utilization of countertransference) is integrated with other key components of psychotherapy such as defense and conflict analysis. Our focus will be on the clinical encounter, attempting to show in our own work and the participants’ work how these different foci can be used in psychotherapy.
