Exercise and the Brain

Program No: MS23
CE Credits: 6 (CE/CME Credits)

Instructor: John J. Ratey, M.D.
Location: MSPP
Description: This program is designed to introduce the participant to the benefits of physical exercise for the brain and psyche. In our evolutionary past, a mere 10,000 years ago, we moved on average about 10-12 miles/day. Our genes come to us from that period and one of the new burgeoning areas of neuroscience research is how exercise is necessary to help our brains regulate our moods, stress and cognitive processes. The program will focus on clinical and research data that are relevant to our patients living in our world today that is threatened with ‘sedentarism’ both physically and emotionally. A new focus on the benefits of exercise is emerging and giving life to the idea that ‘exercise is medicine for the brain’ as well as the body.
