Are we ‘wise’ as therapists and should we be? Do our clients seek from us and/or need more ‘wisdom?’ Does psychotherapy result in more ‘wisdom?’ Just what is ‘wisdom’ anyway and how can we offer it to our clients? In this workshop we shall explore the nature of wisdom and its relevance for psychotherapy. In brief it refers to consideration paid to all the multifarious aspects of situations in making judgments and taking actions. Easy to say, much harder to do. Topics focused on clients’ issues will include the ‘hard cases’ of life, involving tough life choices and decision-making; coping with crises; leading fuller lives; aging successfully. Topics relevant to clinical practice will include issues of diagnosis; comprehensive & integrative treatments; and ethical dilemmas. |
