Description: The rapidly increasing prevalence of obesity among children and adolescents is a complex and challenging issue facing pediatric clinicians. This program will focus on the behavioral treatment of pediatric obesity with an overarching goal to increase the level of competence and comfort to screen for related behavioral health concerns and to apply family-based and motivational counseling strategies. Other issues that often accompany weight concerns and its treatment such as weight teasing, risk for psychiatric co-morbidity (i.e. depression, eating disorders), relationship between psychotropic medication and weight changes and treatment implications of provider weight bias will be discussed.
