Description: Couples struggling with the challenge of chronic health issues or life threatening illness are at greater risk for marital discord and divorce. This program focuses on the unique challenges that these couples face and what the clinician can do to help strengthen their attachment and marital satisfaction at this difficult time. Using the lens of attachment and the map of Emotionally Focused Therapy, we will address the acute and existential needs of working with this population. Weaving together recent data about couples and illness within the EFT model, this program will develop a practical map that can be used immediately in the therapists’ couples work.
