Description: This intensive program serves as an introduction to hypnosis and its clinical application. The program seeks to provide a balanced integration of didactic and practical learning. It provides an overview of: historical antecedents and controversies surrounding hypnosis, the nature of hypnotic phenomena, the elements of the hypnotherapy session, and theories of hypnosis. The program introduces participants to a variety of clinical applications of hypnosis, and reviews the literature supporting its use. A particular emphasis of the program is to view hypnosis as a clinical tool that can be integrated into the clinician’s particular theoretical framework. Intensive hands-on practice will train participants to start using basic clinical hypnotic techniques under adequate supervision. This training qualifies for the clinical requirement (20 hrs) for membership in the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH). It also meets the requirement for 20 of the required 40 hours of didactic-practical training to pursue certification by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH). Another 20 hour intensive intermediate workshop will be offered in the spring.
