Description: This program is offered as part of the 75th anniversary celebration of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (BPSI) and is an example of its efforts to incorporate new ideas while preserving what is timeless. This program will explore those features of psychodynamic psychotherapy that make it distinct from other forms of treatment. The goal is to identify areas of commonality that bridge every modality from supportive psychotherapy to psychoanalysis. Psychodynamic process will be addressed first from a theoretical perspective and then by examining a case. The discussants, representing the leading voices in the contemporary psychoanalytic world, will engage in a lively, open dialogue about areas of difference in the service of finding common ground. In the process it is hoped to illuminate, lend vitality and deepen our sense of connection with our work.
