Description: The Strong Interest Inventory (and imbedded Skills Confidence Inventory Profile) is a widely-used career assessment tool that helps individuals gain an understanding of their interests and how they align with specific occupations, job functions, and organizational cultures. This tool analyzes interests in the context off six distinct occupational themes, subdivided into 30 interest areas, generating more than 100 occupations consistent with the person’s interests. It is a multifaceted tool with diverse applications. In addition to identifying specific occupations for consideration and further research it also presents a visual map of the degree of congruence between thematic interests and confidence in one’s ability to perform and succeed in these areas. The SII provides foundational and concrete data with which to crystallize career options and create focus with the intention of shaping career direction within a holistic framework that includes past occupations, self-generated career ideas, and unexpressed career dreams. It is used to facilitate coaching conversations with people experiencing career transition (as a result of layoff, firing, dissatisfaction, confusion, fear, or life events), as well as individuals exploring the fit/appropriateness of potential lateral or promotional career moves. We will review this tool’s rich theoretical framework and use actual assessment results/case studies to build competence and confidence in integrating it into your work to help your clients achieve job effectiveness and career satisfaction. Due to the interactive nature of this program, the maximum number of participants will be 15
