Marc C. O'Meara, RD, LD, CDE
As a Registered and Licensed Dietitian, Marc worked 10 years as the nutritionist at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's Harvard Medical School-affiliated Mind/Body Medical Institute (now called Benson Henry Institute) in Boston, MA. He counseled patients in the Cardiac Wellness programs, and lectured in the cancer, chronic pain, menopause, and medical symptom reduction groups. In addition, he has lectured extensively nationally and trained other healthcare professionals internationally. While at Mind/Body Medical Institute, he developed a counseling style that focuses on self-motivation, behavior change and mindfulness.
Currently, Marc is an Outpatient Senior Nutrition Counselor at the Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH). He works with clients in a one-on-one setting. As part of his work at BWH, he writes nutrition articles for Aetna's Intelihealth.com website. In addition to working with adults, he was a senior nutritionist for almost 9 years at the Harvard-affiliated Boston Children's Hospital's Lipid Clinic. He has also been the lead nutritionist in National Institutes of Health funded lifestyle research studies at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Deaconess Hospital, Roxbury Heart Center and Brigham and Women's Hospital. Marc has authored several scientific publications that focus on nutrition and health and in 2004, Marc authored nutrition chapters in two Harvard Medical School Mind/Body Approach books (Mind Your Heart and Mind Over Menopause). In 2006, in response to the increasing number of diabetic and pre-diabetic patients he was seeing, Marc became a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). This certification helped him specialize in teaching patients with diabetes how to make lifestyle changes to maintain a healthy blood sugar. In September of 2007, he started his own part-time nutrition counseling practice offering one-on-one counseling and group lectures. Many of his clients are patients from PersonalMDs, LLC in Chestnut Hill, MA. He enjoys speaking at corporations for lunch and learns or leading corporate weight loss groups.
