Dr. David Satcher

Dr. David Satcher charges symposium attendees—keep working for change

“This has been an excellent first step,” said Dr. David Satcher, the 16th US Surgeon General, who shared his own life-long battle for health care equality as he urged attendees of the MSPP disparities symposium to keep striving for parity in mental health services. He and Mass. Public Health Commissioner John Auerbach followed a panel of national experts and MSPP students who presented creative potential solutions for the critical shortage of services for ethnic minorities and other underserved people in the US.

The first in an annual series, Mental Health Matters: Disparities was a held in memory of Dr. Cynthia Lucero, the MSPP alumna whose commitment to the disenfranchised and her untimely death ten years ago inspired the Lucero Latino Mental Health Program.
